◇ THE JOURNEY INTO CURRENT ROLE ◇

Luke grew up suppressing his creativity. Choosing hyper-masculine environments like all-boys schools, AFL, amateur boxing, and the military, where emotional expression was considered weakness. Yet, the music he grew up on were always present: Blink 182, Sum 41, Goo Goo Dolls, and So Fresh CDs.

After discharging from the Army, Luke entered a new world: the psychedelic bush doof scene. It was there, in the wildness of nature, trance music, and communal dance, that he found a piece of the freedom and community he had longed for. Still, the shadows remained. His deep desire to understand human behaviour led him to study psychology, but academia alone couldn’t reach the parts of him that were breaking. Thrust into fatherhood at a young age, and dealing with bouts of addiction, depression, heartbreak, and the collapse of Elysium Gathering, the festival he built from scratch and then lost. He hit another rock bottom.

Afraid, humbled, and cracked open, he turned inward. He sought out new modalities: men’s circles, nonviolent communication, plant medicine ceremonies, myth, and shadow integration. Slowly, his life force returned.

Fast forward to 2024. With the encouragement of a beloved woman and guidance from a radical singing teacher named Vickie, who taught confidence over correctness, and imagination over perfection! Luke sang again for the first time in a long time. Things shifted.

What began as a hesitant Facebook callout became the Gentlemen’s Choir: 20+ men showing up to share sound, song, story, and self. Fumbling his way forward with a mask of confidence, Luke’s role became clearer over time. He was the essence of the choir. Not polished, not perfect, but raw, heartfelt, and willing to go to places most men fear. A mirror for others that musical talent isn’t required to sing. There’s power in song, and power in brotherhood.

Today, Luke leads with curiosity, challenge, and a heart that holds no judgement for where men have been.

His offerings, whether on retreat, in ceremony, or beside a campfire, remind men that they can sing, cry, dance, connect, and be fully themselves.
